Take A Minute, Change A Life!

Yours Truly in Prospect Park, 2016 September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day . For the past few years I participated in awareness through Cycle Around the Globe , an initiative of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). They started in 1960 and grew to over 50 countries around the world. I cycle in Prospect Park, Brooklyn and other areas of my community to share literature and love. I'm a little under the weather today and didn't cycle. So I hope this message can still be reached far and near through internet action. Shout out to everyone working on this initiative today and everyday. According to IASP, every year, more than 800,000 people die by suicide and up to 25 times as many make a suicide attempt. Behind these statistics are the individual stories of those who have, for many different reasons, questioned the value of their own lives. Each one of these individuals is part of a community. Some may be well linked in to this community, and

Something New!

Well it’s mid-day on a Sunday Afternoon as I create this post. Always a great time for writing and reflecting. Last week this time, Sunday, August 20th, I led a walking tour of my Crown Heights community accompanied by my fellow advisory board member Yasmin Schwartz and members the 2017-2018 NYC Repair the World Fellows. Repair the World was founded in 2009 to make meaningful service a defining element of American Jewish life. Repair mobilizes tens of thousands of young Jews to volunteer in tackling pressing local needs each year, and Repair equips communities and partners to do the same. Pictured here are Brian, Michele, Yasmin, Hazel Hurley of 1100 Bergen Street Community Garden, yours truly and Emma. Click here to learn from Rachel Holliday Smith on how the garden was saved from development. The fellows were open to learning, sharing as new neighbors and ready to join in making a difference. Click here to learn about all of them. Stop by to say hello during the annual For

What's Happening In Far Rockaway?....

Hey World, Far Rockaway is nearer than you may think. It's just an A train away to Queens, NY. -Be sure that it says Far Rockaway when you get on the train though. You may accidently end up in Ozone or Rockaway Park instead of your intended destination. It's a beautiful scenery though, once the train finally leaves the tunnel. You arrive outside surrounded by water of the peninsula, hopefully with the sun shining bright. This summer Far Rockaway will experience their very own carnival in partnership with WIADCA, The West Indian American Day Carnival Association . They are the official association of the carnival we experience in Crown Heights, Brooklyn during labor day weekend. The office of Senator James Sanders hopes to make it an annual event, so don't delay if you'd like to participate. This is history in the making. Click on the flyer to see contacts for costumes, vending opportunities and for more information. The Ocean Bay Community Development Corporation

Putting CommUnity Ideas To Work!

Hello World! -Thank God For the Weekend! Over the past three years I've worked to promote education, mentorship, emergency preparation and faith based initiatives in communities undergoing development. While serving to get the word out about services and supporting non-profit organizations and agencies, I've come across many amazing people and events in which many community members may not be aware. I intend to highlight some of the entities in which I've engaged in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, East New York, Brooklyn, Far Rockaway, Queens, South Jamaica, Queens, Brownsville, Brooklyn, East Harlem, South Bronx, North Shore, Staten Island and more! I believe these are all areas to keep an eye on for old and new services which assist the community in addition to events which enrich the lives of friends and neighbors alike. If you live in these areas and would like me to promote, host or cover your next community event ...Email your Beloved Community Ambassador Today! Blessm
