It's the last day of the first month in the year 2012. What have you started or finished? Perhaps you're in the middle of an initiative or are someone that's still thinking about it. Well I will tell you about me. As I stood on my quiet selling floor today I looked up Og Mandino, the late author of 'The Greatest Salesman in the World.' Though I never read this book I knew of its acclaim and inspiration. I found a website devoted to his legacy, and 'supporting and deepening the journey of personal growth and self improvement' as written at www.ogmandino.com. Once one clicks the link to Og for the 21st Century (since the original work was done in 1968) the reader will see a quote to the right. It reads: "My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action. I will act Now!'- Og Mandino.I was inspired to make something happen for my life after reading that quote. Though the beginning may put one in awe the end will set em free! Like ethyl alcohol on a fresh cut, it hurts; but the affected area won't get germs due to the action of pouring the aid to prevent infection. Words are powerful and so are we when we take action. Merriam Webster defines action as a manner or method of performing. An act of will. A thing done: Deed. The accomplishment of a thing usually over a period of time instages, or with the possibility of repitition. The plural refers to behavior or conduct. So I figured my action towards my dreams, plans and goals must now be my purpose. I must work at it continuosly over time. Be the star of my own performance, and one day someone else will recognize my talent and seek my services. For if we don't celebrate ourselves sometime and do what is necessary for us to get to the next level, Why? World, would anyone else... 1...2...3 Action!Be Blessed in 2012 and beyond! Paz.

Hello World!

I've missed sharing with you. A friend of mine recently told me every day is a gift that's why it's called the present! So while you celebrate your holiday season remember that life is the greatest gift. There is meaning in every celebration. You will hear holiday music of all kinds this season. I encourage you to listen to the words.

I recently heard Stevie Wonder's song, "Someday at Christmas Time." In this song he references dreams of a time we may not see now but hopefully one day it will be seen if not by us someday at Christmas Time. Perhaps he chose this time because its a time of peace, joy, giving and sharing with family and friends. Imagine if we all had dreams we worked on for a better world. If in our lifetime we didn't see it come to pass we'd leave a legacy for future generations to continue working on it.

Imagine when the measureable goals are reached and we see the work of those that have come before us in our lifetime. Let's work to live out our best lives so that we can see a better world one day at Christmas Time.

My name is Melanie Shaleya Lewis and I am the founder of ThresholdWorld.

This blog was started out of my personal perseverance to make a change in my life for others. I faithfully danced in the height of my unpaid work, while personal circumstances challenged me. I became inspired by a word gift from above and acted on it!

My passion to serve comes from my father Jesus Christ who died for the world to be free from a life of mess and continuance of it after death. Take it or leave it for what that means for you. I write of my personal experiences inspired by God whether it is an event, idea, circumstance or issue in some part of the world. At times it will be more local or even by a guest. It is for you to identify and see what you can do in your world.

So now intelligence, common sence, high levels of energy, ambition, tenacity, and courage, will all help us to get up and go do something positive!

The Effective Road.......

It dosen't happen overnight. But as we work on it, whatever the change is for, we shall see a result! Every now and then something happens to cause us to want to do something. We may want to take action yet we may not know how.

We can join with a current group already in existence for that same change or start a campaign in our own community. Change does start in us first. Then we can be a more effective witness to our friends, family and community. That's how some preachers made it. Some of them were a mess and will tell you the same; but it was the change made that caused other people to see. Seeing the change in one helps others in their decision to listen. It is because of the one with evidence of change taking place in their life that gives this effect.

Just look at fundraisers for organizations. They always have the ones that experienced the program to tell their story as evidence of the organizations effectiveness. Some call them the poster child for the cause but that poster markets the message! Evidence is something that 'furnishes proof,' Merriam-Webster.com. Examples of proof are "facts, documentation, or testimony as identified by about.com.

Lets plan to effect change like we plan what we will wear the next day. Watch the weather report. What are you wearing when you effect change tomorrow? If its gonna rain then bring the umbrella, or poncho. Stand like the palm tree that isn't uprooted from the storm. Get others like you to stand up and bear fruit from the seeds sown in your grassroots or established organiations of change!

Hello World! It's always a blessing to communicate with you! So much has gone on in the world. ThresholdWorld partnered with From Crisis to Christ, a ministry led by Evangelist Joycelin Allgood, LSW at Rapha Evangelistic Worship Center in Brooklyn, New York last Saturday, September 10th for World Suicide Prevention Day.

L-R-Joycelin Allgood, Melanie Lewis, Wanda McKiver, Adalia Raye Gwaltney Over 500 copies of information was distributed in the community of Ocean Hill/ Brownsville/ Bedstuy! We need your assistance to make it 1000 or more next year. Attendees shared personal stories of triumph over suicide attempts, thoughts, and feelings associated with this mental health issue. We prayed, read scriptures of instruction and sang songs of encouragement. We were blessed to have Wanda Mckiver, author and playwright of Black Rose Diaries, -(currently in production for Times Square) as well Ms, Adalia Raye Gwaltney, author of Wisdom Flows from the Heart: Inspiration for the Heart & Soul. During the candle light ceremony -showing support for prevention, remembering loved ones and for the survivors, we were blessed to have musical artist MikaiEL, known as Pastor Mike of Rapha Evangelistic Worship Center, You can view a snipit of this by liking us on fb and finding it on our page. The World Health Organization, (WHO) reported that one million people in the world commit suicide every year. We pray that our prayers, advocating for life, dismeneing information and speaking aloud about this silent killer will lessen those statistics in the world. Save the date for next year. Tallest building, middle, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NYC

The experience of seeing New York City 70 stories high from the view of the observation deck at the Top of the Rock is exciting for many visitors. Earlier this summer two guys passed me holding a sign that read 'Leaving America Today, Out of Money, Must See Top of Rock.'- They learned New York quickly; Yet it is a very serious matter when one decides to make it their last view in life, as one suicide survivor on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.

As I walked toward my job from lunch I saw people in the streets pointing up. No cars where coming down the street. I wondered along with others, what the heck was everyone looking at? A lady pointed out to me a man at the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, site of Top of the Rock and and NBC Studios. I was told the man was trying to commit suicide.

Here is a video by the NY Post which specifies how responders dealt with the situation. Can you imagine? He lost his job, felt he could not go on and apologised to the responders. It is not by chance this occurred in the heart of New York City, one of the top international travel destinations in world. We obviously must pay more attention to assist in suicide prevention and education. Click here for the International Association for Suicide Prevention.

This man mentioned today is not the first or last person to want to attempt suicide. According the the World Health Organization, "Every year, almost one million people die from suicide; a "global" mortality rate of 16 per 100,000, or one death every 40 seconds. Suicide is among the three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 years in some countries, and the second leading cause of death in the 10-24 years age group; these figures do not include suicide attempts which are up to 20 times more frequent than completed suicide."

On Friday, April 29, 2011 I witnessed nine ladies have meltdowns due to their own personal issues and then powerfully inspire an audience as they gained strength on stage. Real life scenarios are portrayed in this production by talented diverse women. One of them was my fellow alum of Clark Atlanta University, Ms. Khaya Myers. Khaya is an actress in this off Broadway play called the Meltdown. The play will open this evening, Friday, May 27, 2011 and run through Saturday, June 4, 2011. On this particular evening was The Meltdown Chocolate & Wine Fundraiser Gala 8pm -11pm at the Roy Arias theatre on 43rd Street and 8th Ave in New York City which is where the play will be held. Comedians, musicians, and the actresses performed to raise funds for the production. Guests sipped red or white wine while networking and met the cast before viewing live selected scenes of the play.

At tonight's event was another alum of an HBCU(Historically Black College)- Ms. Jennifer pictured above, a graduate of Howard University just moved to NYC from LA where she met Khaya. She was inspired by Khaya to buy a one way ticket to pursue her acting career. Though hesitant, Jennifer prayed and flew for a new opportunity. Two days later she found a job. Jennifer was one of the inspiring network of people in attendance.

But the reason we were all blessed to meet and greet this evening was because of the life and passion of Ms. Wanda McKiver, Director and Executive Producer of the Meltdown.

I got a chance to interview her for about four powerful moments!

What inspired you to write the book and produce the play? Is that the order?
I produced the stage play before I wrote the book, which came out about three weeks ago. It's a real life story. I’ve had some ups and downs in life with love and my relationship with my mom. We've had a difficult relationship for some time now.

So it's like your autobiography on stage.
Absolutely, Yes it is. I never thought about it that way but yes it is.

Is the production different from the book?
Not at all. Just how one interprets it. There is one piece in the show which I wrote as a poem. The name of the piece is In love with being in love. She is in love with the person but doesn't want to be.

What would you say to an aspiring writer or director that may have their own personal challenges?
Honestly I always tell people just to write. Write, write, write, till your fingers hurt. Just write. Don't worry about the grammatical errors, don't worry about the form. Just write; and actually writing is purging. I wrote the meltdown and now that it is being performed I'm over it, and I'm just glad to be back.

I love it that you said writing is purging.
It is.

What is the feeling behind that statement? What does it mean?
It is releasement. I always tell writers if they're not ready to deal with what they're writing about not to write cause once you put it on paper and see it in black and white you must deal with it. You must handle it and if your not ready to deal with it don't write.

That's so powerful. It's amazing.
It's real.

Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration came from the willingness to survive. I have to survive and the way I survive is through writing.

When did you start writing?
When I was seven. Praise God, and I have seven year old twins writing now.
I used to love to read and I told my father that I didn't have any books to read and he said, write them. I'm published over three times now.

The first book is The Black Book Diaries, published 2005, about three black women that ultimately commit suicide due to social issues. I'd been writing on depression. I wanted to challenge the myth that black women do not commit suicide, and yes we do!

The second is about child molestation and incest within the black community, and how we deal with it. It is told by a nine year old going through it.

Then of course the Meltdown, a collection of pieces that I wrote over a ten year span.

The 5th Annual, "Battle In the Apple" drumline, dance and step competition in New York will kick off with a free gospel concert featuring the largely talented and inspirational sounds of the Virgina University Gospel Chorale. I first came to know and love Yanni and Orchestra while watching a special, Yanni Live at the Acropolis, on PBS when I lived in Boston back in 1998. I've never forgotten that experience. I've been a fan every since. Now Yanni is coming to New York City, my place of birth and residence.

I want you to know, I've never purchased a ticket for an event so far in advance for any reason in my life. Yanni and Orchestra are blessed with such talented gifts from above. In all of the world they are on my list of the most amazing, inspirational, lovely, eccentric, group of musicians.

February is finally here. I love it! Take full advantage. It is indeed a month filled with so much festivity, yet is the shortest of them all.

Groundhogs, birthdays, presidents, black history, leap year or not, mid-winter recess for schools, and whatever else you add to the list. Whew! Just goes to show life is short too. We should pack in as much love and positivity into our daily lives as possible. This practice will help us along our everyday journeys.

Today is "A Day On!" It's a day of teaming up for solutions. While looking in the Mirror at ourselves and make personal changes we can also assist to help someone else. During my college matriculation, I learned that Journalism is not an entity to tell people how to think, but what to think about. During the 2010-2011 school season the main focus of ThresholdWorld will be on education. There will days on which I must report on a cool or informative event though; so check back often, you’re certain to learn something new! Scroll below for Upcoming Event, New Book Release and Opportunities.

I am currently a prospective student for the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism Fall 2011 Master of Science Program. I’m filling out my application now which is due by December. There are many initiatives being put forth by the university in educational reporting. This is my platform; I start here and now.

In June 2010, I won MVP for the Ready NYC Program. I was given a very nice Trophy from the Office of Emergency Management for my involvement in speaking in NYC Public Schools about Planning for an Emergency! I really enjoyed this program. I was excited and humbled to be given the opportunity and responsibility to speak in public schools. I received accolades from the Mayors Volunteer Center for volunteering, and my local school for working as a learning leader. This year I will be serving as treasurer at my daughter’s school on the PTA Board. Say a positive prayer for me.

I was unemployed from my banking days in case you were wondering. I used my time to do temp work and make a difference, by being more involved. I’m heavily invested in learning, sharing, and profiting in education this year. Of course, the profiting I speak of is through my writing and research which is my passion and purpose. So I’m blogging and writing to make a difference you can say! I believe that in due time, my passion will be profitable. I just needed to make a start for myself.-Thresholdworld!

It's September 8th! Shofar So Good?

Wow!!! Amazing how time goes by so quickly. There is a song by the Tempos. Perhaps you've heard it. It's entitled, See you in September. Here it is compliments of ak47bandit on youtube. Click here!

Depending upon where you are in the world, when summer begins and when it ends determines the start of the educational year. Most people in the United States embrace the end of August to be the end of summer, especially with the return of school.

Yet summer is not over until about September 22nd in the United States with the beginning of autumn equinoxes the next day. Perhaps that’s why my daughters Girl Scout registration day is September 24Th with official start October 1, 2010.

At at any rate, school is in session. A family member called and asked if I were taking my girls to school today. My answer, yes. Apparently some parents are still protesting the midweek start. In case you didn't already know, Rosh Hashanah is on Thursday and Friday.

New York City Public Schools will be closed after today's start with a return on Monday, September 13, 2010. Many parents were unhappy about this decision. The schools chancellor, Joel I. Klien announced that the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) opted to keep September 8th as the official start of school so that Brooklyn Queens Day can continue to be a day off! At least that what I recall.

While much debate is about the calender, lets educate ourselves about Rosh Hashanah. What is it anyway? Go to Chabad.org one will find that it means head of year in Jewish tradition. It's an anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve and their first actions towards the realization of mankind's role in God's world,as identified on the chabad.org site.

The story of Adam and Eve can be found in most Holy Bibles in Genesis Chapter 2. One can read the story via biblegateway. Click Here. The day also commemorates man's first sin and repentance; Eating the fruit of the tree which was forbidden and asking God for forgiveness. Many blow the shofar, a rams horn to signify calling a people to their king.

This two day celebration marks the start of ten days of repentance, which ends on Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement. Special observations are to bless each other with kind words and eat apples dipped in honey to signify the desire for a sweet year. Now, that's a nice new meaning to give a teacher an apple and a kind phrase for the start of this season!

National Teacher Appreciation Day!

I've got to say, Dr. Collete Hopkins and Professor James Mc Junkins were the most excellent professional educators I've met in my life. They were also friends. I hope they don't mind me calling them friends, for certainly they went above and beyond for me. I will never forget Mr. Mac, as we called him in college giving me a grade of "F" for writing Mass Media Arts Department instead of Department of Mass Media Arts. What would I expect from a professor that went on to work for the New York Times Newspaper after obtaining his degree.

Dr. Hopkins and I met while I worked on campus. I kept saying I'm gonna get a scholarship to Study Abroad in Jamaica. She actually ended up being my sponsor. She donated a significant amount while Mr. Mac loaned me the remaining balance, also significant. Thank God I was able pay him back before crossing the stage. (Smile)

I represented my school that summer at the University of the West Indies and received a 4.0 GPA for my studies. I went on to assist with the National Black Arts Festival Education Programs for about three years after meeting Dr. Hopkins. She was the Education Director. Dr. Hopkins led me into a creative world where I learned so much. Mr. Mac became my primary professor of Journalism. I received a lot of necessary correction to assist in my intended field.

These educators were far from slackers. They were excellent professionals in every sense. They wanted the best for me and put their own money to the cause of my education. I appreciate them very much. Mr. Mac was even the Grand Marshall at my graduation. My entire family, including my 76 year old grandma who got on a plane for the first time in her life came to witness this day. (Rest in peace E.L.M. 5/1926-7/2009.) I pray God's blessings on our great educators and wish a rippled blessing for their children. I appreciate all of my teachers in my life and leave you with a huge THANKS!

National Teacher's Week begins in the United States today! All over America from May 3-7, 2010 teacher's are being appreciated. This is actually celebrated all over the world. Click here!

I found a cool gift for my daughter's teachers at Fish and Edy's In NYC. It was a notebook pad that was actually a plate. I'm sure the art teacher will think this one is cool. Click here. How about that? Then I thought, would they really want to see another notebook or palette?

Well, it's a gesture of thanks. That's what this week is all about. Appreciating the work of teachers everywhere. I found a nice site online. I've got to repeat this for you to explore. Go to Teacher-appreciation.info.

Urban America to the World- Part II.

Welcome! If you didn't read the last post it's best to go back and read Part I. I had the blessed opportunity to attend the National Action Network Conference in NYC. The panels and panelists were very diverse and varied by industry. Attendees were able to hear from key leaders in Education, Health, Politics, Faith and much more!

I attended the session: Are People of Color Fairly Covered in the Media? Common consensus, No. "That's why their is a black press," stated Elinor Tatum, Publisher of the New York Amsterdam Newspaper. Why? One reason explained by Ed Schultz, anchor of MSNBC"s The Ed Show is "90% of media is controlled by conservatives. You gotta own the signal," Schultz said. George E. Curry of the Curry Report explained, "We need to plead our own cause. If we don't support our media there will be no one; We will have no voice," Curry said.

In the Special Plenary Session, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael S. Steele spoke of his job, the American Dream, and Education. Chairman Steele said his job is to "turn the elephant; Take the grand old party and make it the brand new party." Learned earlier in his career the necessity of listening and learning. Prepare to face challenges. Posed the question of whether the American Dream is a birthright or not?

Spoke of the statistics and challenges facing the black man as identified 47 years ago by President John F. Kennedy being relevant today. Steele continued, "What happened on our way to the American Dream? It's time we stand for something different." Spoke of his surprise in seeing Newt Gingrich and Rev Al Sharpton campaigning for education reform. That's different, good cause. Spoke of "institutional injustice." He stated, "don't try to rescue the public school system at the risk of the children. We don't force kids into a system. If they can't compete, all of American is weaker," Steele said. "welcome innovative charter schools," Steele said."

Bishop Charles E. Blake, Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ and Founder of Save Africa's Children spoke of the 5 initiatives of the 12,000 Churches he leads; Education, Job Development, Community, Strengthen Families; Fathers, and Literacy. His topic was "Lost purpose; Lose well being!" "Oppression forced much of Black America into unity. Adversity was a source of strength," Bishop Blake said. He spoke of Black America building in the midst of adversity. "All is not well with Black America," he stated, "40% Blacks to 80%Whites to be married, poorest, sickest, 1st to die, 56% of aids deaths, and 56% unemployed black males in NYC alone, Bishop Blake stated. There is a need to develop "a new panafrican vision. We've got to take charge of our own destinies," He said. "When people find something worth working for they find purpose. African Americans must join for Africa like Jews in America for Israel. "It's never too late. Your not enough is more than enough," he said.

Mr. Timothy Kaine, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee- Spoke about his experiences in the presidential campaign and the Democratic mantle. Spoke about signing on to President Barack Obama's campaign early. Originally turned down his current job, but President Obama said it was for him. Talked about of his proudest moments campaigning which included, his dad voting for a Democrat for the first time. "The mission of the Democratic party is presidential success," Kaine said. Which leads to further success within the democratic party he said. This is done through organizing for America. A website devoted informing the public on presidential matters. Lastly, he spoke of the Democratic mantle being that of Medicaid, Social Security, Medicare, the Civil Rights Act and the latest he's most proud of Health Care.

Happy Tuesday! Needless to say, last week was a busy one; Apologies for not writing sooner. Did you have an opportunity to view the website suggested last week? Did you get to attend and hear from the U. S. Secretary of Education, Mr. Arne Duncan, the popular gent, Mr. Fonzsworth Bentley or the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mrs. Kathleen Sebelius?

Perhaps you heard from Bishop Charles E. Blake, Presiding Bishop of the Church of God In Christ, (COGIC). America may not be your country of residence and this may not be your usual site to view; but it is full of links to information that may assist in a cause you may be working on. So no worries, if you didn't go or didn’t know; you can attend next year. Add TV One to your cable stations; listen to Rev Al Sharpton one his radio shows.

Why? You may ask; because you are bound to learn something. Knowledge is power. (I couldn't resist the School House Rock throwback!) The National Action Network (NAN) Conference was held at the New York Sheraton Hotel and Towers in NYC. It was very informative. It was an opportunity to hear from key political leaders from their mouths to your ears.

Mr. Bentley was on site and available to sign copies of his book!Photo compliments of www.myspace.com/fonzworthbentley. He addressed the black church about the need to get into the ipods of the young. Use downtime wisely.

I left full and fired up for action in my country, beginning in my community; such are the qualities of the current President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama. Let’s pray, meditate and send happy thoughts to him and his cabinet to maintain their strength and perseverance to govern with continued distinction and integrity as we have seen.

‘The history of the National Action Network is the history of the civil rights movement in urban America,’ reads the first page of NAN history. Attendees of the conference, including yours truly, were able to hear from the chairman of the Republican and Democratic Committees in the same week. More details coming tomorrow.

Welcome to Tuesday! It's a brand new day to be thankful for life. Let's live our best life now!!!! There is an urgency. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone of us.

Many of us are aware of the tragic death of Poland's leaders last Friday. While prayers are being sent out, especially from Thresholdworld and many others, affairs are still going forth with an election to be held for a new president in less than three months. The affairs of the country must go on.

If you were to perish, what do you think would be said about you? What is your contribution to your family, friends, work or community? Reflect for a moment.

Are you an island? Is the world like water surrounded by your land. Together everyone achieves more and you are needed to provide a resource, fund a project, plant a tree, protest injustice, or something you are passionate about. Your life has purpose!

That's all for today. Life goes on without us; but with our current input into society, we leave a legacy for those that remain.

Hello. I'm writing in the heart of New York City! Rockefeller Center is a nice spot to eat, play, shop and more. People are skating outside in April! Could this really be only in New York?

So grateful that Starbucks is available for me to communicate with you online. At 12:30 I will be meeting with Andrea Bearam of Soul Purpose. I will be finding out more information on the opportunity to become an entrepreneur with this company.

On Saturday, March 27, 2010 I had the opportunity to attend the launch party of Genesis Magazine in New York City. I'm pictured with the editor in chief herself, Ms. Brittany K. Earls in the picture above.

On the same block as Grand Central Station was this celebration of new beginnings. Guests gathered on the 15th floor of a premiere office building on a Saturday evening. Fitting to the purpose of Genesis Magazine, the evening was about networking, information sharing, new possibilities and opportunities. While no one was getting down on the dance floor, all were celebrating new beginnings with a purpose!

Great connections were made by attendees. There were offers to become entrepreneurs, get help with small businesses, build your brand, meet potential financial representatives, health insurance for small business owners and more! It was also a very diverse atmosphere where people shared the goal of celebrating new beginnings.

The magazine was on hand for attendees to read and subscribe for the entire year for $20. Inside many contributors tell their stories of overcoming obstacles. Owners share their stories, entrepreneurs share their passions and artists share their talents. Others write how they broke down barriers in their lives. It's a very diverse publication with interesting subjects for everyone.

When Brittany and I were able to chat she talked about the jobs she had in marketing. She spoke of her talents and experiences that could be transferred to her own venture. Though she's had her share of doubters that a magazine without the celebrity gossip and materialistic articles could make it, she is one of the newest editor in chief's in NYC today. Brittany's magazine highlights everyday people making extraordinary differences in their lives and the lives of others.

While there is alot of work that goes into producing the implemented vision seen in the pages "it's an easy pitch," Brittany said. "It's an opportunity for people to have 15 minutes of fame," she said. "We are not chasing Tiger Woods here."

Many of the publications advertisers were on the spot for the launch. They shared information about their businesses and gave Brittany their well wishes. One of the inspirational mediums that caused this blog to be in existence is that of Proverbs 31 Ministries. I was doing research for my sister in the lord, Minister Arlene Mitchell of Prayer and Empowerment and came across Proverbs 31 Ministries. Such a treasure! Such a blessing to my life.

I began to read the daily devotionals on a consistent basis. It was especially helpful while I worked my first corporate job at one of the top financial institutions during the financial crisis. I also shared this ministry with my friends; I now share it with you.

I would like to win a scholarship to the 2010 She Speaks Conference. There is more that I would like to have poured into my spirit to give. Blessed to be a blessing is my motto, my prayer and my mission. I am single, a mother, public relations specialist, trustee, writer, public speaker and volunteer. I want you to be enlightened by a new idea, information or inspiration to cause you to react in a fashion that will cause you to walk the run way of life like the supermodel you are! Male or Female, you better work.

Work is necessary and can be hard, but keep it moving. Look good doing it as well. In spite of set backs, heartaches, disappointments and old habits; You can make it! Continue to feed yourself with positive thoughts and explore something new to renew your mind.

Ya Heard?

I had an appointment today at my local radio station. I saw where some of the on-air personalities work everyday. -Including where Wendy Williams once sat, along with some of her offices. I viewed the studio where Steve Harvey and Hezekiah Walker have their shows. I even waved at Egypt while she was on air in the studio. It was cool to see and experience behind the scene info.

There is no amazing furniture they sit in. No colorful walls to inspire them. Their mouthpiece is the creative energy that facilitates the events, news, and music to get people through the day. They reach so many people too. Online, live stream, on air, and satellite for other states to listen in the show.

Writing for radio and commercials is creative as well. Including too many details can cause one to loose listeners. Communicating effectively is essential; For so many reasons. I heard Steve Harvey on the radio just this morning talking about someone that wrote a commercial and really didn't understand the sport they were advertising. He wasn't happy about that. He communicated on air the proper understanding necessary for the commercial. Right on the spot.

While on air, they've got to expect the unexpected. They Ad lib, are actors and actresses, comedians, entertainers and with amazing personalities. It really is an art. In order to communicate effectively let's use our mouths with full creative energy. Think before we speak, and be mindful of our listeners.

Who is your audience? Sharing information can make or break us depending upon our intelligence on the subject. What we are listening to or communicating can have an amazing effect on many people. Let's keep it positive and informing; Enlightening and empowering.

Hello World!

Are you planning a vacation this year? It's almost spring. Many opportunities are being presented to travel. Don't let time pass by without traveling somewhere different. The ending of February into March was a very busy time of destination travel.

The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada was bittersweet. The Olympic flag is now in the hands of Russia, as they will host the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi. They've already begun to count down the days. Perhaps this is an opportunity to travel to a place many of us haven't thought to take in the past. I couldn't help but think of the first time I heard the Russian National Anthem. It was while watching Rocky Four.

Certainly, my prayers are with Chile and continue to be with Haiti. Amazing that Hawaii had that Tsunami scare. Some people probably had to cut their vacations short or perhaps stayed to help out. You never run out of people to help in the world. If you'd like to support those effected by these events, the American red cross always has great links to help you help them. P.S. March is American Red Cross Month. 'Down the Street Across the Country Around the World.'- Go back and check out the site if you didn't already.

I had a nice time The New York Times Travel Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on Sunday, February 28. I took the girls and mom came along with us this year as well. We got to met Patricia Shultz, author of 1000 Places to See Before you Die. She signed my journal companion to her book, in which I was able to purchase on the spot.

We saw performances from all over the World. North American, African, Asian, and Caribbean performers had attendees stopping by to hear the sight and sounds of their homeland. One local group, FUSEZION, Synergy through creativity, performed under the Bahamas tent. I was able to find out they assist with Event Planning and Stage Production from the dance stage to carnival, as indicated in print by the groups choreographer, Cecile N. Brathwaite. They attended the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York this past summer.

My daughters, mom and I all enjoyed the free gifts from the different vacation destinations. Flowers from Maui, Teddy bears from Bush Gardens. The opportunity to dance with Panamanian performers, free cookies from new friends representing Tanzania, obtaining a replica of the South African World Cup soccor ball, Spongebob poster advertising Nickelodeon at Sea, on the Norwegian Cruise Line and more.

We really had a great time. I almost paid for a home in Florida to stay in while vacationing, but since I'm not a driver and the transportation is not like NYC, I declined. I did however leave with bags and bags of potential places to visit. I did decide that I will plan a trip to experience the Holy Land in Orlando Florida. Stay tuned for more info. Fundamental of Change

Happy Thursday! One day to go for the weekend; Hope this week was a positively productive one for you. Make it even better in the future, make sure you've done the basics.

Education is fundamental to your change. In your industry, home, personal life, etc, learning is the basic prinicpal to understand how to create the change you need. Unfortunately, many of us in the world are not taking advantage of the vast resources available.

The library, wise man or woman in town, professionals, mentors -that have experience on the area of interest and even the Holy Bible can assist in your quest. Yes, they say history repeats and certainly it does. Though this is 2010 people experienced life and death centuries ago too. War, peace, sickness, building a business, and disasters as well.

When a person or group starts a new business, research is done to market the business to the audience they intend to reach and make income, to stay in business. Existing businesses are studied as well. Education of both those that do well and those that do not help a new company have an idea what to avoid and what may be a consideration when implementing the business plan.

There's nothing like being educated. When you have knowledge and understanding of it, then you have wisdom for change.

Today in world history, I Melanie Shaleya Lewis was born in 1978. That's right! But I wouldn't be able to share any ideas or inspire you to make a difference, if God's favor would not have allowed so many amazing people to make a difference in this world, besides my parents.(Smile.) One of the most notable, who's life and day of birth I humbly share today, is that of The Honorable William Edward Burghardt Dubois, known to most as W.E.B Dubois.

He was on born February 23, 1863, in Massachusetts. Civil Rights Activist, Editor, Historian, Pan-Africanist, Sociologist and Writer were amongst his titled accomplishments. He was also a professor at my Alma mater. In fact, he established the department of social work. I attended Clark Atlanta University which was created from the converting of Atlanta University (where he taught) and Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia.

His entire life was dedicated to education, research and sharing his knowledge to communicate about people of African decent. This was done so that one would become more informed when thinking, working, employing, living and generally interacting with those of African descent. He was a founder of the NAACP and the first African American to earn a PH.D from Harvard University. "To be a poor man is hard, but to be a poor race in a land of dollars is the very bottom of hardships," W.E.B. Dubois. He died 95 years old in Ghana,1963.

Happy New Day To You! I borrow that from my mother. She says that to my children when she sees them in the mornings. Some days can be routine for us. But some mundane is necessary.

Surely our reputation is built on consistent habit in something; either good for us or bad. Hopefully, we work to get it right for the better. Consistent habits become ordinary things we do but they present extraordinary results for our faithful habits.

Sunday, February 14Th was not only a day of love, but also a celebration of the Lunar New Year. Many people in the world observed the Year of the Tiger!-Bravery. Look at these amazing pictures from a parade in Chinatown during the Olympics, compliments of Reuters and the Toronto Sun.com.

While viewing New York City's China Town events, I came across an amazing author, with a relative statement of observation. "There are more Chinese restaurants in America than McDonalds, Burger Kings, and Wendys combined," states Jennifer 8. Lee, author of The Fortune Cookie Chronicles. (A Book of Adventure through the Mysteries of Chinese Food.)

Certainly, I need no stats to agree with this statement. In my neighborhood alone, there are at least 5 Chinese Restaurants within three streets of my home, and many more within walking distance. Ms.Lee's writing and research is very engaging and interesting as well. She even posts a video which reveals how more American fortune cookies are than Chinese.

Ms. Lee will have a Massachusetts appearance as indicated on her blog with Ming Tsai, James Beard. He is an award-winning chef and owner of Blue Ginger and host of the Emmy-nominated Simply Ming on WGBH. The event is to benefit AAJA New England and its Internship & Scholarship Fund. It will be held on Thursday, March 11, 6:30 p.m at the Blue Ginger 583 Washington Street Wellesley, MA 02482. The First 25 ticket holders will receive her new book!

Ms. Lee is also a writer for the New York Times and is tweeting about her experiences in Vancouver, so check her out!

I thought of this video as I thought of my birthday and what I'd like to accomplish in my life. My birthday is on Tuesday, February 23. I will be 32 years old! I believe writing is a part my purpose. My world gets bigger each day I learn, read and share experiences with you. I hope that your world is becoming bigger as well.

Many people in the world are celebrating valentines day today. It's a beautiful thing to spread love. I will not sugar coat the love of Jesus. -Been good to me all my life. Whomever the creator is to you, believe and have faith that your ideas can become a reality and you too can make a difference in the world.

Regardless of your race, social economic status, career, political views, who you know or don't know, your circumstances can change when you spread love and think positive! Peace, Blessings and Love!

On the other hand in my camp setting the Fugees was being played. I couldn't believe it! Honestly, this is the very first cd I ever purchased! Music is universal. It does bring people together and so does sports. This sport event is the most watched in the world!

We would have enjoyed the High Tea With High Heels at the Hyatt,' Prayer Breakfast with notable gospel singers, such as Mary Mary etc, but didn't receive a reply. Haiti: A Closer Look at a Paradise

A recorded magnitude of 7 earthquake occurred in Haiti. In a situation like this, I have plenty of questions. Could we prevent it? Did they have guidelines? A contingency plan?

How many lives could be saved? I might want to know how the earthquake happened? How was it characterized? Volcanic activity? Landslides? Mine blasts? or nuclear experiments?

The last two options should be impossible, since I was not aware of such activities in Haiti. I must agree that seismic activity is not my expertise, however as a scientist these type of questions usually occupied my mind. I generally ask questions to comprehend the circumstances, even try to find feasible solutions. However this time, I have bigger and pressing issues: Haiti is my homeland.

Before the media focus on Haiti and big donations were given to save lives through some well-known organizations, I was always conscious of this island. Conscious enough to be part of Fondation des Cazaliens D’Outres Mer (FOCOM), which is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to helping poor communities in Haiti, especially the town of Cazale: the place that I was born. Yes, I usually know when hurricanes damaged Haiti or even when the town Gonaive was flooded. I am familiar with the island’s unemployment rate, poverty level, literacy rate. In the mist of all the pessimism's, I experience Haiti through its lavish and rich African culture, great organic food, the enormous taboo about voodoo, the imposing structure of La Citadel, entrepreneurial investment, but above all, I recognize how resilient, robust, and courageous are its people.

Through this ordeal, I must say as a Haitian-American, I am overwhelmed by outpouring of prayers, kindness and generosity from people around the world. That being said, massive labor needs to be done. As my brothers and sisters are going through this nightmare, I had to remind myself: “I can not be emotional, as people concentrate on rebuilding Haiti, I want FOCOM to play a key role” friends and philanthropists, this is the time to invest, learn about Haiti, and the opportunity that it has to offer.

Picture this: “An enormous mansion by the ocean with breathtaking sunrise and sunset, palm tree, coconut tree, exotic flowers. Imagine the tropical fruits: mango, sugar apple, passion fruit, banana, papaya, pineapple, amazing sea food, adventurous sports, and of course tropical climate all year around,” this is just a hint of what one can experience in Haiti. Now, make it a reality.

LIFE AND LEGACY

In death we leave memories to family, friends and co-workers; Yet our spirit of service can live on as a legacy as well.

Many educational institutions, non-profit organizations, churches, public and private businesses receive gifts from those that have been laid to rest from their labors. This act helps many organizations to still be standing decades later. Ask the development department of your favorite charity or organization. Tell them you'd like to make a lasting commitment to their cause. Nowadays one can request over a million on life insurance anyway, so why not allow your specified amount to go towards a good cause.

Perhaps your name can live on and your philanthropic efforts be commemorated in a ribbon cutting for a new building, computer lab, classroom, library, etc. Check the better business bureau and other accountability organizations about the financials of your organization; Speak to your lawyer and touch up that will. Leave a legacy that will make a difference after you lay to rest from your labours.

A Real Thankful Thursday!

This has been a challenging week for me personally. It is not the first time and will not be the last. So often, people hear the good about people's lives. People don't usually voice real issues they've had until they're rich and famous.

All of my current projects are voluntary. I am unemployed, single, a mom, & living with my family; But it's temporary. I'm also the same woman that helped commemorate closing bell ceremonies at the New York Stock Exchange and worked for one of the largest financial institutions in the world, just recently. I never imagined those things would even happen.

I've stayed positive, put my best foot forward, in spite of difficulties, and persevered. Through it all, my faith has not wavered. I've become stronger and able to plan, volunteer and be creative to implement ideas. I really want to help people. I truly aspire to make a difference.

I believe people like reality shows because well, its supposedly true. Maybe there is something that they identify with, or their tired of watching other people get paid to act. Social networking sites are greatly appreciated. People are able to reconnect with old acquaintances, and keep up with some new. Yet people are seeking something real.

You can see from their posts that they want to be loved, and they want their voices heard. Many people are not your friend. Let's be real today! People of the world, confront the areas that you must; In order to be free to live your life of passion. Perhaps that's where your purpose really lies.

Your current situation is temporary. You must be consistent, studied and linked to the right people to maintain today. I personally have faith as well. Believe in God. Believe in yourself. Believe in something positive to make things happen!

Today, I am grateful for life and for you. Thank you for coming here to be inspired into action as I have been. This is the start of something fresh, new and awesome. Life is truly what you make it. Let's make it real.

Wisdom Wednesday: The Grass Will Not Worry!

As soon as my sister and I entered the botanical gardens today, we both took a deep breath in and you could hear the ahhhhhhh from our mouths. We then began to laugh. The serenity, beauty and oasis of the garden just soaked up all worry, ill thoughts, hard decisions and heartaches.

In the botanical gardens you take a trip to another place. The Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, may have possibly made me want to learn Japanese in college. The Crandford Rose Garden, made me think of new beginnings. The Cherry Esplanade/Walk is the place to sit, think, and write. The Adventure of the Tropical Rain Forest, Desert and Warm Climate Temperate Pavilions are amazing experiences.

Such a gem. It's always been my favorite place to be in the world. Yet, I'm still traveling and hope to see all the beauty that God made. If there is no place in your home to escape from stress and just take time out to breathe, seek an experience in your community. A quiet natural place.

If near your job there is a park, I encourage you to go during your lunch hour. The green grass and tall tree is still. They share resources. Smile. I never thought of that one. The tree is rooted underground and the grass grows above it. It's always the perfect scene for one to be sitting under a tree for shade and on the grass which covers the dirt. It's beautiful, quiet and natural.

The grass and trees are alive. Amazing how you can enter such a place, unpolluted so that you can leave all pollutions or worries of life at the door. "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and green and tomorrow is tossed into the furnace, will He not much more surely clothe you...
Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? or, What are we going to have to drink? or, What are we going to have to wear?"

A Child Shall Lead!

On Monday morning, I found a family friendly project to attend. It was the Children for Children/Youth Hands On Network’s Eighth Annual Grow Involved on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Event in New York City. The girls and I traveled to East Harlem to the P.S.57 James Weldon Johnson Leadership Academy. The same project was being held at the Martin Luther King High School as well and sponsored by the Citi Foundation.

Some of the projects included: Designing fleece scarves for the homeless, knitting blankets for infants, painting murals and assembling school supply kits as indicated on the website www.childrenforchildren.org. Children aged 6 and under participated in a special service feature called, ‘The Dream World.’ The entrance was decorated in such an inviting manner. The children crossed the threshold of service, passing through blue, white, and silver balloons, stars and silver metallic décor draped from the ceiling to the floor. The project was created as referenced to introduce the youngest volunteers in the experience of helping others. It kicks off a ‘semester of service,’ which culminates on National Youth Service Day in April.

By this point many had already crossed the threshold. ‘The Dream World’

More than 2,500 people were expected to have attended the day’s event. There were a lot of volunteers at this location. Many other service organizations and groups were present to assist. I ran into fellow City Year Inc. Alumni & other Americorps members, Girl Scouts, Day Care groups and Be The Match Marrow Registry.com was there swapping for potential matches for a young lady in need. Literature about Kids Care Clubs Point of light Foundation was left for attendees as well. Kids Care Clubs Proving “Kid Power” Builds a Better World! www.KidsCare.org. It was also a service location for people that signed up for Disney's initiative to get people involved and a day at Disney.

Sylvia, a girl scout in Brooklyn showed her completed abstract art fleece scarf.

Before leaving, I was able to interview the Assistant Principal, Ms. Angela Camiolo. She helps to coordinate the event. “Originally we’ve been in partnership with Children for Children for five years and they collaborated with Hands on Network. They inspire and support us with our community service with the children, so it’s a really great partnership.”

I asked her how the school was able to mobilize the children to come out and participate. “Some of our children performed today; a notice was sent to all kids and its part of our middle school student’s community service hours,” she said. “We created a community service log and they can now log in these hours they’ve got by being here. It’s an additional service component we started because the chancellor said we need to bring community service down to middle school so we have 6, 7 & 8 graders and it’s a component we started this year with them.”

“Community service starts very young. You cannot wait to get through high school and that’s why I find it amazing that the chancellor said instead if waiting until high school for graduation component, you need it for middle school,” Ms. Camilio said. “When you see what a community needs and you step up and take action that’s leadership. So we’ve integrated community service with leadership.”

Hello World! I attended the 13th Annual Rainbow PUSH Wall Street Project Economic Summit this afternoon in New York, NY. The topic: “Targeted Stimulus: A Call to Equity and Parity.” The event dates are January 13-15, 2010 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. www.wallstreetproject.org

The Project was founded on January 15, 1996 to honor the birth of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the beginning of the first quarter of the business year. The Project’s organizational origin, as referenced on the website, rests with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference’s Operation Breadbasket, established by Dr. King in 1966 to work toward a more inclusive America by combining theology with the struggle for economic justice.

This afternoon’s highlights included: New York State Governor David Patterson receiving the Percy Sutton Award and Pastor Hezekiah Walker receiving the Reverend Timothy Wright award. The United States Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack spoke of the many opportunities to help build community. The USDA’s Rural Business loans and grants help provide necessary assistance to make a difference. www.usda.org.

Reverend Ford referenced Dr. King’s sermon, 'The Dimensions of a Complete Life,' with sited biblical text from Revelation 21 vs.16.

The length of a man is love of self; the width/breadth is love of others and the height is the love of God. Reverend Ford spoke that many people are just out of balance. ‘It’s ok to have a yacht and bling, just don’t be out of balance,’ he said. He made an appeal for clergy to speak this message to their congregations. He concluded: If people find themselves out of balance, it can be leveled with love.

Any thoughts after reading this information? I learned this in college and not before. Some enslaved persons during prosperous Haiti actually fought and won; Yet victory was short lived and poverty stroked the land.

Out with the Old and In with the New: Are things better or worse?

I was at my parent’s apartment when the sink started to come off the wall. It was a good old sink, literally. It was the kind that had a tub and sink area. I remember being washed in the tub side as a child. The idea of being bathed in the tub of the sink and up from the floor was so cool.

Of course, mom was there with me and we had a regular bathroom with a tub. Moms just create fun ways to get things done. I washed my girls in it too. It fit their size just right at the time. My father used it for soaking clothes and collard greens. Smile. When everyone was over for dinner, all the pots and pans and dishes would be soaked before washing.

It was just multipurpose. The sink was very sturdy, white and porcelain –like. A chair had to be propped to hold it up till the super or apartment repair man came to fix it. After he took out the sink, there was a need for the floor to be redone. New wood was applied and linoleum was placed down.

Great! Looked nice, but the sink was still not replaced. A pipe was open and suds appeared, resulting in floor damage. The wood board and linoleum had come up and it wasn’t cute. The floor was then repaired again and at least mopping shouldn’t be a problem in the future.

The sink was also replaced. But now, the new sink had only one sink area. Dad wasn’t happy with that. It wasn’t what he requested. But it’s new and it’s on the wall. Unless it’s changed he will have to get used to it. Last I heard the kitchen will be painted today. The parents are celebrating their 50+wedding anniversary this week. They’ve made so many memories over the years and deserved a new kitchen for some time.

Something may be happening concerning you, that you just don’t like. What you may not know is it may be something for your good. If during this year something just doesn’t seem right, remember, sometimes things get worse before they get better. Perhaps it’s a prompt for you to do something. Be Blessed! Damai

The Gift of Understanding

I hope you're having a wonderful day. I woke up early today and came across all of my favorite holiday movies. I watched as my children opened and played with their barbie dolls. Later, I watched the Joyce Meyer Show. The topic was about relationships. It's still early!

On today's show Dr. Gary Smalley was a guest and discussed relationships. It's known many of us will be around family and friends that we love, including those we just don't seem to mesh with. This was right on time for me. I have relationships with people that need improvement and was seeking advice for the future.

It was discussed that so often when people quarrel they're trying to change the other person. The real issue at had is usually not the reason for the quarrel. The quarrel is actually fear of personal issues or insecurities. Dr. Smalley's final advice was for us to focus on ourselves on what is causing us to react in the manner we do, in response to what others have done or said to us. We can have peace with others, when we control our emotions and seek to find our issue with the situation at hand.

Mrs. Meyer felt we should not go into a situation dreading seeing someone before we even get there. When we do this we are expecting a situation to occur. She felt we should first pray and ask God to help us deal with the person that we seem to have a challenging time dealing with. If we have to go to the bathroom to take time out before a possible incident occurs, she suggested we do so. I appreciated this show today. Certainly, if anything Dr. Smalley and Mrs. Meyer talked about seems like it would be helpful for you, then use it in your relationships.

I like to share information and appreciate this understanding today. I will focus on me and have greater peace in relationships. What are you doing to have peace and understanding today? Be blessed! Shalom.

Growing on Purpose

Hello. So nice to communicate with you. Happy Holidays as well. I am so excited that I am now connecting with the right people, organizations and events to make things happen!

I'm officially a public relations specialist for my worship center. In the past I'd just do what needed to be done because it was necessary and the laborers were few. I did have qualifications though. Now that my area of specialization has been identified I am amazed. Many non-profit org admins wear many hats.

Though I love hats this one is just right for any occasion. While finding this area of efficiency I've also found areas in which I need to improve. - I am very grateful. I've believed that putting God first and good deeds would help my life's purpose as surely it has. I've known for years that writing and public speaking are areas I'd work in some form but it's now happening consistently.

I've even identified the networks and organizations that will help propel my career. I'm so excited to have now become familiar with beliefnet.com. You all know I wish you peace at the end of every blog entry. During this holiday season while looking up peace I discovered the blog of Norris from beliefnet.com and his entry on peace. I immediately shared it on FB and subscribed to their newsletter. It's so impressive. Great information sharing, inspiration and faith based. Hmmm sound familiar?

What I love is that the Co-founder, Steve Waldman is an accomplished Journalist and Entreprenuer. He was once the senior advisor to the ceo of the Corporation of National Service in the 90's! I read this with excitment. Love It! Truely my concentration in school was Journalism and I was a member of the Corporation for National Service in the 90's. Mr. Waldman actually left beliefnet.com in November to become a senior advisor the the chairman of the FCC. He will be serving in strategic planning focusing on Journalism and New Media.

Mr. Waldman is a man to know about at this time in my life. Certainly -l recognize his face from news shows but fully understand his excellent contribution to Journalism, faith and entreprenual implementation. I've said much. Are you growing in your purpose? Has your area of specialization been uncovered? Are you ready willing and able to accept the call? Are you networking in that area? Work to make a difference and you will possibly find your purpose. Mix it Up!

Water will help us all to survive. Yet it's time to plan and do more for our lives.

Picture a cup empty and then with some water. Once you drink it down you're like ...Ahhh. Your body is releaved. Especially if you were already thirsty.

A little later how about a glass of milk, orange juice or red wine! Hmmn. Color, calcium, vitamin C, celebration; Vibrancy, life, action! When I think of the threshold, I think of all the possibilities we have in life. Some of us just decide to survive and others hardly at all.

We become dehydrated when we do nothing or feel deprived, bored or like something is missing in our life. You do have a choice. Add diversity and options to your life. Don't go to the same place day after day, year after year. Have you met significant people?, gone to amazing places? or seen much differently than before? Mixing will produce a different kind of flavor. Keep drinking your water but every now and then mix it up.

I think I'll have a Pina Colada today! I'm gonna have lunch with a friend in Manhattan and then print up some business cards. I've got a new place to go. I'm gonna meet some new people tomorrow! How about You? Got anything to drink besides water? Are just just surviving? Be Blessed! Pace.

Get in Shape for the Fight of your Life!

The heavyweight champion works out daily. He or she has a trainer. They have a special diet. They drink lots of water. They wear protective gear.

They have a workout routine. Medical, dental and life insurance are necessary. Good health is important to continue fighting. If they're not well, it will effect their ability to win a fight.

Contenders have to win a fight to get to the next. They have to be a lightweight first. To be the greatest one has to train long, smart, have great trainer, the mind set and will do get there. They must have discipline to follow the rules of the ring and strategic energy to knock down the opposition. To block the blows of the opponent he or she will duck, punch, and go around the other to avoid being hit.

Like wise we must have a mentor that can guide us in meeting our goals. Do you feel weak or tired in your life? Or are you a fighter? Get in shape and stay in shape. You will win title, metals, and special honors for your preparation. Working smart for your life will give the resources necessary to rest as you wish when it's time to break from the ring and rejuvenate.

Don't give up mom, dad, sister, brother, cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, friend, guardian. Whoever you are you must roll up your sleeves and and knock out your personal opposition. Get the belt that fits your waist. It's tailor made for you! Are you in shape? Be Blessed! Paix

Will You Be Amongst the Great?

This blog entry is dedicated to the numerous men, women, boys, and girls that make a difference in the world.

Today Alan Khazei, Co-Founder of the City Year Americorps Program ran a new race and finished. He campaigned for the senate seat of the late great Senator of Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy. Senator Kennedy was an advocate of City Year, service and the people. So fitting, many of us felt, that Mr. Khazei's phrase was 'Run Alan Run,' as he was encouraged to join this race.

In doing so, he further spread the news of City Year's great work in the United States and abroad. He also made others that googled him aware of his newer venture, Be the Change Inc. Mr. Khazei attended Harvard Law School with City Year CEO Michael Brown, who Co-Founded City Year with Mr. Khazei. Like President Obama they received their law degrees and worked in grassroots projects to assist and strengthen communities. The passion and dedication of these men along with like-minded team members set of a ripple effect to many other nations of the world.

I applaud the continued work of Mr. Khazei and so many of you that are making a difference in the world. Mr. Khazei did not win the race today but, indeed he ran, finished and we Khazei supporters are grateful for his continued passion to serve. MLK Day is Monday, January 18, 2010. Greetings World:

So often people that give back, volunteer, or help others in some form or fashion don't give much of anything for themselves. Is this you? It is ok to to admit it. Confession is testimony to your soon deliverance.

When we take time for ourselves and rest in our own way, we give our mind the ability to think free thoughts. Our aspirations, goals, and plans can be mapped out. Developing a time and space to do so will also give the mind the creative ideas to form and gain inspiration to get things done.

Today I walked into Divine Connections Hair Salon in Brooklyn, NY. It was such a nice experience. I was offered tea; which was right on point because this laryngitis has not gone away. I was able to view nice reading material. Steve Harvey's new book, 'Act like a Lady, Think Like A Man' was one I chose to pick up. I will be purchasing it! Thanks Mr. Harvey. God Bless ya the more!

As I sat under the dryer sipping my tea I thought of the things I plan to accomplish. I envisioned myself there. I then read the beginning the Mr. Harvey's advice on relationships. I thought of how it related to past relationships and how I'd go about things in future relationships.

They had very nice customer service. Before leaving out with a new do, I received literature on events in my community and coupons for local businesses -including their spa. I now know of more places in my diverse community, met new people, look and feel good. I made time for me and by doing so was able to feel even better the next day.

I wished I was able to write for you all while I was at the spa yet, I had no connection. It was actually good for me though because it was time to relax. Be Blessed! Paz.

Taxi!

Hello World! So I got into a cab and Ahmed thought I was a Muslim. I had my burberryish scarf over my head and twirled around my neck. I'm not trying to play games with this laryngitis. It's gotta go!

Anyway, Ahmed starts asking where I'm from and is surprised initially when I say America. He likes the way I look and talk. I'm thinking, -I have laryngitis, but it was the words I used. He asked my profession then quickly guessed, 'are you an instructor or teacher?' I said, You can say that. I do teach emergency preparation in public schools.

Guess what world? Lucky guess, his wife is a teacher in NYC Public Schools. He asked me about my children. Then asked of my husbands' profession. I was like, I don't know yet, I don't have one. He said, 'you gotta look for him.'

I have never had a conversation with a cab driver like this ever. Being born and raised in Brooklyn, New York I was quite leery as to his questioning. I just followed the native New Yorker common sense role, -don't revel anything really personal. I did live down south for a while so I'm a little more friendly then before I attended college, I think.

Anyway, he was cool. I asked how long he'd been in New York and he said two years. I told him about the blog and my interest to learn more of the Pakistani culture in New York and abroad starting with restaurants. He gave me his contact info and says he will take me himself.

I was like wow. I've never had a cab driver take me out to dinner. I said, your wife is coming right I want to meet her. We don't play those games people.

I will keep you posted on this occurrence. Have you ever met anyone providing you a service and built a rapport? Maybe we should all open up a little more in order for someone to take us through new door of opportunity. Lets share. Be Blessed! Shalom

The Beginning: Just do it!

In the beginning was this word and it was sent to me from God. Threshold! Webster.com defines it as the door. The place or point of entering or beginning. The level, point or value above which something is true or will take place and below which it is not or will not. What a definition!

Before I received this word I was singing the song "Stand" by Donnie McClurkin and then "Renewed" by Sheri Jones- Moffet. These songs were encouraging to me as I struggled up the street with my two little girls. I wondered when my change was gonna come. Why things had stayed the same for so long and how could the stream of poverty be broken in our communities? That's when I began hear this word.

I began to dance in the street. Something I honesty have never spiritually done. Those that know me know I love to dance but this was different. It was a personal proclamation. I began to leap for joy.

Although my present circumstances and those of the people around me were the same, I felt victory instead of defeat. This was due to the word of God that simply said to me personally-Threshold! I include the World in this testimony of my blogs birth. We the world in all our diversity will break the personal struggles that have held us back individually by the door. What ever your door is or is not will be your decision to make.

Entering or beginning will determine your outcome. You may currently be midway through the breaking point. It's time to make a decision. It's your move. If you're royalty don't allow anyone to take your crown.

What is your threshold right now? What opportunity are you about to give up if you don't complete that next project? What can you do to start a program to solve a problem in your community? What leap of faith must you take to reach a higher level in your life? I encourage you to be positive and get to a point of value; The place or thing that will give you joy as I had dancing in the street.

This blog is a journey and such is life. We will keep things moving. We will travel together. We will meet new people, share ideas, and marvel at the opportunities that become available; All because we decided to make a move in a positive direction. Be blessed beautiful people of the world! Peace.
